Why Invest in Yourself?
Before I tell you why you need to, promise me to read first the story to give you a primer.
The story of professional robbers
“Don’t move!” announced the leader of bank robbers. “The money belongs to the State. Your life belongs to you. Don’t try to resist!”
Everyone in the bank dropped down quietly.
This is called “Mind Changing Concept.” Doing the same thing in an unconventionally way!
When a lady in red robe lay on the table provocatively, the robber shouted at her:
“Please be civilized! This is a robbery and not a rape!”
This is called “Being Professional.” Focus only on what you are trained to do!
When the bank robbers returned to their safe house, the younger robber (an MBA-trained) told the older robber (only a high school graduate): “Big brother, let’s count how much we got.”
The older brother rebutted and said: “You are very stupid. There is so much money it will take us a long time to count. Tonight, the TV news will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!”
This is called “Experience.” Nowadays, experience is more important than paper qualifications!
Right after the robbers had left the bank, the manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. The supervisor said to him: “You are not thinking! Go ahead and take out $10 million from the bank for ourselves and add it to the $70 million that we have previously embezzled from the bank”.
This is called “Swim with the tide.” Converting an unfavorable situation to your advantage!
The supervisor says: “It will be good if there is a robbery every month. This is opportunity!”
This is called “Killing Boredom.” Personal Happiness is more important than your job.
In the evening, the TV news reported that $100 million was taken from the bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted all night, but they could only count $20 million. The robbers were very angry and complained: “We risked our lives and only took $20 million. The bank manager took $80 million with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated than to be a robber after all!”
This is called “Knowledge!” which is far more worthy than gold!
“Little brother, take the $10 million, go back to school to learn more!” said the big brother. “They made us look stupid!”
This is called “Invest in yourself.” Taking a part of the earnings and reinvesting it in your business.
Meanwhile, in his luxurious office, the bank supervisor was smiling and happy because his losses in the stock market are now covered by the robbery.
This is called “Seizing the opportunity.” Daring to take risks!
To Wrap up
The story is very fascinating. It really made me smile. It was presented a bit funny and with humor, yet you can learn a lot from it. I can’t help by remember about the scandal about a trader who lost more than $5 billion. The trader was made famous but ended up in jail and ordered to repay his former employer the lost amount. His employer write-off the amount as loss and earned tax exempts. The investors of the fund were left empty-handed. They were told by the bank to blame the trader for their losses.
Why invest in yourself? Invest so that you will not be used as scapegoat for someone’s plan. Invest in yourself means you have to put some of your resources to make better of yourself. Keep learning. Learn as much as you can. If you don’t invest in yourself, sure enough, nobody will invest in you.
